Guaya United were crowned 2017 League One Champions in an amazing final round of action in the Trinidad and Tobago Super League.
The “Green Army” trounced Defence Force TTSL 6-1 at the Guayaguayare Recreation Ground in a thrilling final day of action on Sunday.
Carlon “Judgement” Hughes was the man of the hour for Guaya United, as he has been all season. Turning on the style, he netted 4 goals versus Defence Force to take his tally to an incredible 30 goals for the season.
Needing a favor from UTT at the Larry Gomes Stadium though, they duly got what they needed as 2006 World Cup veteran Cornell Glen struck the lone goal in a 1-0 victory for the visitors against FC Santa Rosa.
The “Big Cannons” were one point ahead of their rivals and in pole position to defend their title after Guaya slipped up versus 1976 Phoenix FC in the previous round. However Glen’s solitary goal doomed the Arima based club to a runners up position in the inaugural TTSL season.
Although, his defence was breached in the title deciding game against UTT, FC Santa Rosa’s Kitwana Manning immense form between the posts sees him walk away with the golden glove award after recording 11 clean sheets throughout the League One season.
