FC Santa Rosa is now in pole position to lift the inaugural Trinidad and Tobago Super League – League One title after title contenders Guaya United suffered a shock 5-3 defeat at the hands of 1976 Phoenix FC on Thursday evening.
The “Big Cannons” had retaken top spot in the league standings on Sunday with a hard fought 1-0 over Police FC at the Arima Velodrome while Guaya’s encounter was postponed to later in the week due to a waterlogged pitch.
In the rescheduled fixture, Andell Noray capped off his tremendous run of form to close the season by registering a hat trick to doom the “Green Army” to only their second loss of the season. Noray has now scored 8 goals in his last 4 TTSL games.
Carlon Hughes attempted to rally a revival late in the second half with a brace which takes his season’s tally to 26 goals, however it was not enough, as Phoenix held out for a deserved victory.
The results in this penultimate round of action has completely turned League One on its head.
In the final round of matches to be played on Sunday 10 December, Guaya United will now have to depend on a massive favour from UTT who play defending champions FC Santa Rosa at 330 pm at the Larry Gomes Stadium.
Meanwhile, Guaya United will need to get the business done, and comprehensively so, as they host Defence Force TTSL at the Guayaguayare Recreation Ground in a simultaneous encounter.
