Last season’s champion, FC Santa Rosa walloped lowly Club Sando Moruga at the Arima Velodrome on 2 July.
The “Big Cannons” blasted 7 unanswered goals beyond their opponents to help them to keep pace with leaders Guaya United FC who were also on winners row at the end of Round Four in the Trinidad and Tobago Super League.
Santa Rosa were on the front foot from the get go and had prolific attacker Keron Clarke and young starlet Saleem Henry to thank for their ascendancy in the first half.
The second half proved to be even better for Clarke as he notched his hat tick in spectacular fashion. The corner was swung in and Clarke acrobatically volleyed the ball into the corner of the net. The strike was certainly world class and puts Clarke at the top of the goal scoring charts with 5 goals.
Nearby at the UTT O’Meara Campus Grounds, Guaya United were made to grind out a 2-1 win over UTT in a hard fought, muddy encounter. UTT never backed down throughout the contest and equalized via the boot of Dillon Bartholomew after Marcus Ramkhalawan curled in a free kick in the first half.
UTT’s resolve eventually wilted on the soggy pitch when Shaquille Ferrier pounced on some defensive errors to steal all three points on the day.
Police FC were also in winners circle in Round Four as they sauntered to a convincing 3-0 win over winless Siparia Spurs. Colin Williams struck a brace after being assisted by Kenwin Matthew, while veteran defender Anton Hutchinson also chipped in with an item of his own following a goal mouth scramble.
In the Tobago derby, 1976 Phoenix FC and Bethel United FC battled to a 2-2 draw. Dominique Kerr put in a man of the match performance, but he couldn’t help Phoenix to claim their first win of the season.
WASA FC and QPCC also battled to a 1-1 stalemate on another soggy ground after serious torrential rainfall over the weekend. Glenn Walker got off the mark this season to give WASA the lead in the 56 minute but Devon Modeste pounced on a loose ball soon after, to equalize for the Parkites.
The game was also highlighted by a red card shown to fiery Parkite central defender Chad de Freitas in the 70th minute for dissent.
In another fiery encounter, Cunupia FC finished with 9 men in an ill tempered affair against Defence Force TTSL who also finished the game a man light.
Stevon Stoute stole the show for the Predators with a brace and an assist. However things turned sour for the veteran attacker when he was shown his second yellow card in the 86 minute. Josimar Belgrave also bagged two goals for the Defence Force but his efforts could not prevent Cunupia from holding on to claim a valuable 3-2 win.
