In the Trinidad and Tobago Super League (TTSL) – League One Round Seven, FC Santa Rosa suffered their first defeat of the season to a resilient Defence Force TTSL outfit. While league leaders Guaya United were denied a seventh consecutive win after being held to a goal less draw with QPCC.
QPCC had goal keeper Raheem Belgrave to thank for their share of the spoils with Guaya United at the Hasely Crawford Stadium Training Field. The teenage custodian produced a number of smart saves to deny leading goalscorer Carlon Hughes and company.
Belgrave was ably assisted by defender Trevon Mitchell who was resilient to deny the Guaya United wing play.
While the strength of Guaya United may have intimidated some, QPCC’s attack didn’t shy away from their tasks. Guaya United defender Sherlon Campbell had to be sharp to snuff out all attacks and in doing so, he provided the stable platform for the “Green Army”s attackers to try to do the job at the other end.
At the other end of the island, Siparia Spurs prevailed in a 3-2 shoot out with Bethel United. Siparia’s Arvid Applewhite was particularly impressive and commanded the ball with assurity. This created the platform for midfield architect Chris Collins to pull the strings for the “Sand City Boys” as he laid the ball on for Dwayne Edwards to score soon after notching a goal of his own.
The midfield in this Round’s Team of the Week belongs to the dynamic Defence Force duo of Dexter Thornhill and Seon Jack. Thornhill in particular was imperious and has been knocking on the door of the Team of the Week for some time. He was even able to cap off his impressive performance against FC Santa Rosa by providing the pass for Josimar Belgrave to score the team’s second.
Police FC bounced back from their recent poor form by beating a demotivated Cunupia FC outfit 1-0 at St James Barracks. The result was in no small part based on Chase Sealey’s goal and overall performance.
Capping off the Team of the Week midfield is UTT goalscoring midfielder Dillon Bartholomew. Bartholomew has hit a purple patch in front of the goal recently and rescued UTT from 2-0 to claim a draw against Club Sando Moruga.
Quickfire, early goals was the name of the game for our Team of the Week attackers. Kyle Morgan of Club Sando Moruga opened the scoring against UTT in the 3rd minute, before providing Marcus John with the pass for him to score his goal in the 10th minute. It was a great overall effort from Morgan.
He is partnered in attack by WASA FC’s Michael Lee Celestine who proved to be goal poacher extraordinaire against 1976 Phoenix FC. Twice within the first 14 minutes, he was in the right place at the right time to poke home after some excellent build up play from Dwight Crichlow.
